STEAMED AND PAN FRIED MOMOS

Momos is traditional Chinese recipe, it is steamed bun with filling. I am going to write recipe on momos  with vegetable filling which is steamed and pan fried.This dish is super delicious and can be served for lunch/dinner. Serve this momos with dipping sauce and you will crave for more and more....

Preparation time : 1 hour
Serves : 8 momos

Ingredients
Maida/all purpose flour - 1 cup
Salt to taste
Vegetable Oil - 2 tsp
Onion - 1
Garlic cloves - 3
Green chilis - 3
Carrot - 1
Cabbage - 1
Soya sauce - 1 tsp
Worcestershire Sauce - 1 tsp
Red chili powder - 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
Vegetable oil - 1 tbsp + 2 tbsp
Big Potato - 1

Preparation
  • In bowl add all purpose flour ,salt, 2 tsp oil.add little water(around 7 to 8 tbsp in parts) and start kneading to form a firm dough.
  • Cover dough and keep it aside for 30 minutes.
  • Peel , cut and microwave the potatoes for 3 minutes
  • Using food processor finely chop onion, garlic, green chili, ginger, carrot, cabbage.
  • Heat tbsp of oil in pan. add finely chopped onion, ginger, garlic and saute for few seconds, then add the finely chopped vegetables, mash the boiled potatoes, and saute them.
  • Add salt to taste, soya sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, pepper powder and mix well all the ingredients.allow it to cool down
  • Make the log out of the dough and divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
  • Make ball out of each dough... Meanwhile keep the steamer pan with water to boil and grease the pan with oil
  • Roll out each dough ball. The center needs to be thick and edges to be thin.Add 2 tsp of vegetable stuffing at the center.
  • You can shape it in two ways:  1) lift on one side and start pleating it.Join everything at the center 2) Join the edges and bring both the ends together and join.
  • Keep it in the steamer pan.Steam it for 5 minutes. Repeat the same for rest of the dough.
  • Meanwhile heat 2 tbsp of oil in pan. After 5 minutes of steaming pan fry the steamed momos one by one till it is golden in color on both the sides.
  • Steamed and pan fried momos are now ready. Serve it with dipping sauce and enjoy. 


Tip:
  • You can also use idli pan or pressure cooker instead of steamer pan.
  • Steaming may vary depending on thickness of your momos. steam till it is not sticky. do not over steam.
  • Roasting is optional.. but do try as it tastes awesome.
