STUFFED IDLI

Idli is popular breakfast recipe in South India prepared using Urad dal and Rice rava and served with Coconut chutney/sambar. I have tried a variation to this idli by stuffing it with simple potato masala and it tastes just awesome and is very filling too.Try this variation when you prepare idlis at home

Preparation time : 20 minutes
Serves: 30 medium idlis

Ingredients
 Batter using rava

For the masala
Coconut Oil/vegetable Oil - 1tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Channa Dal - 1 tbsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Green chilis chopped - 5
Ginger grated - 1 inch
Garlic cloves chopped - 5
Onion chopped - 1
Potato - 3
Salt to taste

Preparation
For the masala
  • Peel, cut the potatoes into cubes and microwave the potatoes for 6 minutes.
  • Heat Oil in pan. add mustard seeds, urad dal and chana dal, turmeric powder.
  • When they turn light brown add onion, green chili, ginger and garlic and saute till translucent.
  • Mash the potatoes, add them, salt to taste and mix well.
For Cooking idlis
  • Add enough water in pressure cooker and switch on the flame.. I use pressure cooker without whistle.
  • Grease the idli moulds with oil. Pour half idli batter to each mould. then place the masala stuffing and then again pour idli batter to cover the stuffing.
  • Steam it for 12-15 minutes in medium flame.Once its done using spoon remove idli from the plates.
  • Stuffed Idli is now ready. Serve hot and enjoy.
