BATATE SONGA

Batate Songa is very famous Konkani recipe prepared using potatoes, onion and dry red chillis. This dish is very spicy and can be served as side dish for lunch/dinner or with any dosa/idli recipes. Try this out and share your comments. 'Batate' means potato in konkani.

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Serves : 5 to 6

Ingredients
Potatoes - 4 to 5
Big Onion chopped - 1 1/2
Dry Red Chillies - 12 to 15
Tamarind - small ball
Coriander Seeds - 1 tsp
Vegetable/Coconut Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste.

Preparation
  • You can either boil the potatoes and then peel them and cut into cubes or peel the potatoes cut into cubes and microwave for 5 minutes
  • Grind Dry red chilis, tamarind, coriander adding little water to form a smooth paste.
  • Heat oil in pan. Add onions and saute  till it becomes translucent.
  • Now add the ground paste, little water and bring it to boil.
  • Add the boiled/microwaved potatoes and bring it to nice boil for about 8 to 10 minutes in medium flame. You can even mash the potatoes if you desire.
  • Batate Songa is now ready. Serve hot with rice/dosas/idli and enjoy

Tip:
  • Amount of dry red chilis can be increased/decreased depending on how spicy you like to eat. But this dish tastes awesome when it is spicy.
