Batate Songa is very famous Konkani recipe prepared using potatoes, onion and dry red chillis. This dish is very spicy and can be served as side dish for lunch/dinner or with any dosa/idli recipes. Try this out and share your comments. 'Batate' means potato in konkani.

Potatoes - 4 to 5
Big Onion chopped - 1 1/2
Dry Red Chillies - 12 to 15
Tamarind - small ball
Coriander Seeds - 1 tsp
Vegetable/Coconut Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt to taste.

Preparation
- You can either boil the potatoes and then peel them and cut into cubes or peel the potatoes cut into cubes and microwave for 5 minutes
- Grind Dry red chilis, tamarind, coriander adding little water to form a smooth paste.
- Heat oil in pan. Add onions and saute till it becomes translucent.
- Now add the ground paste, little water and bring it to boil.
- Add the boiled/microwaved potatoes and bring it to nice boil for about 8 to 10 minutes in medium flame. You can even mash the potatoes if you desire.
- Batate Songa is now ready. Serve hot with rice/dosas/idli and enjoy
Tip:
- Amount of dry red chilis can be increased/decreased depending on how spicy you like to eat. But this dish tastes awesome when it is spicy.
