OATS IDLI

Oats idli is delicious, nutritious, easy breakfast recipe prepared using quick oats, sooji/semolina and some other spices. This is very filling recipe. Preparation time : 20 minutes
Serves : 20 small idlis

Ingredients
Instant/quick oats - 1 cup
Sooji/semolina - 1/2 cup
Carrot grated - 1
Green chili chooped - 3
Ginger grated  - 1 inch
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
Lemon juice - 1  1/2 tsp
Asafoetida/Hing - big pinch
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves chopped - 5 strands
Vegetable/Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Chana dal - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Broken cashews - 1 tsp

Preparation
  • Dry roast the oats and semolina separately  for about 2 minutes till you get nice aroma.
  • Heat oil in pan. add mustard seeds. when they start to splutter add channa dal and urad dal, broken cashews. saute till golden brown.
  • Add turmeric powder, hing, green chili, carrot, ginger and saute for a minute. 
  • Add salt to taste, dry roasted oats, semolina, coriander leaves lemon juice and mix well. 
  • Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water and mix well. the batter is ready. The batter is of thick and coarse consistency.
  • Add 2 cups of water in pressure cooker/steamer and heat in medium flame. I have used pressure cooker without whistle.
  • Grease idli molds/plates with oil. Pour the batter on to idli molds and once steam starts escaping cook in medium flame for about 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the idli using spoon.
  • Oats idli is now ready. Serve hot with chutney/ghee and enjoy.
