POHA CUTLET/TIKKI

Poha Cutlet/Tikki is perfect , healthy snack recipe prepared using poha and potatoes. If you are working women and you want to prepare something quick do try this out. nothing can be simpler than this snack. Serve it hot with cup of tea/coffee. You can also try parsley tikki/Oats tikki/Vegetable cutlet.

Preparation time : 15 minutes
Serves : 12 to 15 cutlets/tikki

Ingredients
Poha/avalakki/flattened rice - 1 cup
Potato - 2
Green chili chopped - 3
Onion chopped - 1/2
Cumin seeds/jeera - 1 tsp
Chana dal - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Curry leaves - 5 to 6
Vegetable Oil - 2 tsp
Red chili powder - 1 tsp
Chat masala - 1/2 tsp
Lemon juice - 1 tsp
Black pepper powder - 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp
Bread Crumbs - 3 tsp
Salt to taste
Vegetable Oil - 2 tbsp

Preparation
  • Boil the potatoes or peel and cut them and microwave for 5 minutes.
  • Soak poha in water for 4 to 5 minutes and drain them to remove excess water.
  • Heat oil in pan. add mustard seeds when they splutter add cumin seeds, chana dal and curry leaves saute for few seconds till golden brown.
  • Add onion, green chili, salt to taste and saute till it becomes translucent. switch off the flame.
  • Once it cools down add the potatoes and mash them,then add  poha, red chili powder, chat masala, lemon juice, pepper powder, bread crumbs and mix well to form thick dough.
  • Shape them to small tikkis or any shape you desire.
  • Heat oil(2tbsp) in tava. place these tikkis on tava and fry them in medium low flame till they become golden brown in color. Now flip on other side , add tbsp of oil and roast them till they are crispy.
  • Poha tikkis/cutlet are now ready. Serve hot and enjoy
